After school enrichment policies are like insurance policies; you don’t want to use them, but they are great to have in place, just in case. We have compiled a list of some of the best afterschool enrichment policies. While this is not an end-all list, it provides a good foundation. Each school or company needs to decide what policies work best for them, but if parents know what to expect, then you can save yourself a lot of headache in the future.

Behavior Policies

Attending after school classes should be a privilege, not a right. Students are expected to behave in a way that ensures a safely run class. Therefore, if a child is keeping the class from being fun, safe or educational, afterschool enrichment policies that outline student behavior will give you the flexibility to remove the student if necessary.

Liability Waiver Policies

This is in the unlikely incident that a child gets hurt. Check with your school or company’s legal department on how to best word this afterschool enrichment policy.

Photo Release Policies

You may want to take photos of the class for marketing purposes. Or, you might just want to update parents on how much fun the kids are having! Whatever the reason, you’ve got to get approval first. Taking photos of minors requires parental consent.

Refund Policies

You don’t want anyone to get take advantage of you, and you want to be fair to parents and vendors, so make sure you establish an afterschool enrichment refund policy. The most common refund policy we’ve seen is to offer a full refund prior to the start of the second class, and no refund after that.

Cancellation Policies

Let parents know what happens if you cancel one class or a whole session. For example, will you give refunds, credits or move their child into another class?

It is very important to have these policies in writing and have parents agree to all of them when registering for classes. Again, afterschool enrichment policies are like insurance policies because you’ll be really happy to have them when something doesn’t go as planned.
